Central Catholic Crew
Pittsburgh, PA
College Recruits
Central Catholic grads have been recruited to row by the following universities in recent years:  Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Marietta, Princeton, St. Joseph’s, Syracuse, the United States Naval Academy, Trinity, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Each athlete is encouraged and supported in developing his God-given potential. We believe that the best way to do this is to use a highly competitive selection process for boating priority (first boat, second boat, etc.). Even so, Central’s program encourages boys of all levels of natural physical ability to participate. We do not make cuts from the roster; if we have sufficient numbers of athletes in increments of nine (eight oarsmen and one coxswain), everybody races.
Parents
Parent involvement is the foundation of Central Catholic Crew's success.
Parents staff the Central Crew Board, manage fund-raising events, serve as chaperones, and drive vans and tow vehicles for out of town races. Members of the board keep the books and direct procurement, capital investments, communications, transportation and team travel, which includes food and lodging for the oarsmen. Board members and chaperones comply with Diocese of Pittsburgh background check and security training requirements. Central Crew parents find that their contributions to the cause are abundantly rewarded in new friendships, camaraderie, and the priceless satisfaction of family involvement in high-class championship competition at remarkable outdoor venues.
